Up the Yangtze- The river that erased her past will write her future

Up the Yangtze (2007) Poster

Up the Yangtze is a film that documents the lives of people in Hubei, China that are being affected the Three Gorges Dam across the
Yangtze river. Specifically, it follows "Cindy" and "Jerry", both of whom received employment on a cruise ship that served wealthy tourists. These characters came from completely different worlds, Cindy from a self-sufficient farming family and Jerry from a background of prominence. While on the boat Cindy was a shy worker, whose main reason for working was to be able to send money to her family who was being displaced by the building of the dam. The area her family was living in, afforded them the opportunity to grow their own food, but since they have to move they now have to pay for food. Helping her family was her primary reason for working, even though she preferred to go to high school. Jerry on the other hand is arrogant and his primary motivation, was having money and making the most tips. He was not a humble or modest worker, which is what his employers wanted so due to his arrogance, he was fired from the cruise ship. The yangtze was transformed by "the biggest hydroelectric dam and history" and placed many families in a major economic crisis. Jerry and his family, will more than likely survive this change, but the same cannot be said for Cindy, she and her family will have battles ahead.

The Cruz Plaza

The Cruz Plaza is being created in replacement of the Porter Patch.  What I find interesting about the Cruz Plaza is that it is named after a family from Puerto Rico. This is especially interesting to me because my dad is from Puerto Rico and his last name is Cruz as well. As nice as this picture of what the Cruz Plaza will look like in the future there are many considerations that need to be thought about in terms of the construction site. The site is very open and students are able to walk through it on their way to class. This can be extremely dangerous, especially since many students text on their phones and are easily distracted by friends. The trucks also drive around the Stetson area freely, which can be safety hazard. The workers also need to be aware of the what lies beneath them such as pipelines and gas lines. They need to be aware of the dangers that come with working with such infrastructure. However, I am sure they are fully conscious of all of these things as they are seasoned and professional workers.

Geology

*First, granite is made of large mineral grains (which is where its name came from) that fit tightly together.

*Second, granite always consists of the minerals quartz and feldspar, with or without a wide variety of other minerals (accessory minerals).

*Third, almost all granite is igneous (it solidified from a fluid state) and plutonic (it did so in a large, deeply buried body or pluton).

*Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) in the form of the mineral calcite.

* It most commonly forms in clear, warm, shallow marine waters. It is usually an organic sedimentary rock that forms from the accumulation of shell, coral, algal and fecal debris

* It can also be a chemical sedimentary rock formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate from lake or ocean water.

*Marble is a non-foliated metamorphic rock that is produced from the metamorphism of limestone. It is composed primarily of calcium carbonate.

It is composed primarily of calcium carbonate. Marble is commonly used for sculptures and as a building material. Marble is a rock resulting from metamorphism of sedimentary carbonate rocks also.

*

*Quartz is a silicate mineral and the most common mineral of the continental crust

*It occurs as clear or cloudy crystals in a range of colors. It's also found as massive veins in igneous and metamorphic rocks.

*Quartz is the standard mineral for hardness 7 in the Mohs hardness scale.
